Numeracy

Numeracy at Gordon Primary School

At Gordon Primary School, we believe that numeracy is an essential life skill that enables students to confidently interpret, analyse and solve problems in everyday situations. Our mathematics program is aligned with the Australian Curriculum and develops students' knowledge, understanding and skills across the three interrelated strands of Number, Algebra, Measurement, Space, Statistics and Probability.

Through the proficiencies of understanding, fluency, problem-solving and reasoning, students build strong mathematical foundations and develop confidence in applying mathematics across a range of real-world contexts. Teaching is delivered using Explicit Direct Instruction, where new concepts are carefully sequenced, modelled and practised before students apply their learning independently. Teachers use ongoing assessment and targeted differentiation to ensure every student is appropriately challenged and supported to achieve success in mathematics.
