          Waratah Integrated Unit Years 3 and 4  

In Waratah we have 5 classes. a 2/3 class, 2 year 3 classes and 2 year 4 classes.

The children meet every morning in "meet and greet" to learn of, up coming events, sing songs and generally have fun.

 

Waratah Integrated Unit Term 3              “Rally Around Australia”

For Term 3 the Waratah unit of Work we will be learning about “Destinations around Australia”. We will be focusing on Flora, Fauna, Land marks and climates of various areas throughout Australia. Students will embark on a imaginary journey around Australia, faced with problems and decisions along the way.

 Develop an appreciation of the distances between locations and the remoteness of particular parts of Australia.

Students are to calculate, monitor and adjust costs associated with travelling.

Empathise with the difficulties faced by people who live in isolated areas of Australia- health, food, socialisation, education.

Conduct research using different modes in order to create multi-modal presentations about the places they visit- postcard, PowerPoint, project.

On a map of Australia highlight destinations as they are visited and record the distance travelled on each leg and how long each leg will take.

Keep a travel log that details each leg of the journey. Including: the place visited, money spent and remaining, distanced travelled, money-problems, wild cards and an illustration of something the traveller finds interesting about that place.

 

Waratah Integrated Unit Term 4                          “Natural Disasters”

During this Unit of Work we will be investigating the causes and main features of natural disasters. Via a range of multi-modal resources students will explore and analyse the impact of natural disasters upon the built and natural environments.

Write an information report on different natural disasters,

Partake in class science experiment related to different natural disasters and follow up by completing a procedural report,

Explore the impact of natural disasters on people,

Understand the main features of reports,

Understand the main features of procedures,

Develop metalanguage about natural disasters,

Identify differences between man made and natural disasters
